We're officially snowed-in here in Virginia (well, there's snow on the ground and I'm not leaving the house) so I thought I might take a minute to tell you about our wonderful Valentine's weekend.
It fell on a Sunday this year so we decided to celebrate a little bit each day : )
Callum's little party at preschool was Friday so we had to make sure that his cards were all labeled and his snacks were ready to go. Let the record show that buying snacks for preschool is a very tricky, stressful ordeal. Will they judge me for buying sugary snacks??? Do they agree with me that it's a party so let the poor, organic children enjoy some sugar???
This was our first year buying Valentine's for his little friends, and I learned a few valuable things: 1.) decide in advance if you're OK being the kid/mom who just gives a card, 2.) decide in advance if you want to be the cool kid/mom who attaches candy, sticker, temporary tattoo, etc, 3.) make at least 30 friends between now and next year because you can only buy these stinkers in sets of 32.
I was definitely not prepared for the monumental decisions I had to face standing it the aisle at Walmart the night before the party : )
We opted for the candy-free hologram dinosaur Valentine's (because dinosaurs, duh), but I think I'll spring for the tattoos next year. Callum got a few of those and really enjoyed them!
Jesse and I still have trust issues (although I have my eye on a potential babysitter at preschool . . . sounds a little creepy . . . sorry) so we knew our weekend would involve zero dates and lots of family time.
We did spice it up a little bit Saturday night by cooking a new dish, getting dressed up for no particular reason, and dining on our wedding China . . . for the first time, I might add!!! Life's too short not to use the fancy China for a normal meal : ) Callum even used his to eat a hot dog and easy mac . . . because why not?!?!?!

It was actually pretty fun to get dressed up for a night in and dinner was surprisingly delicious. THIS is the recipe I used for the pasta, and it was so easy! I will never again buy alfredo sauce from the store or try to make it on my own because this pasta was AMAZING!!!
My Nana will be happy to know that no dishes were harmed in the making of this meal. We got through dinner and a cycle in the dishwasher with no chips : ) Wins all around!
Sunday was a full day of fun. Callum woke up to a few surprises . . . a dancing dinosaur (because duh), some Transformers, a basketball hoop, and plenty of chocolate to share with mom and dad!

We drove up to Manassas for a friend's party and had to stop at Target on the way. About 20 minutes later Jesse realized that he wasn't wearing his wedding ring. He freaked out a little (because who loses their wedding ring on Valentine's Day), but I was confident that it would turn up. We had to drive past the same Target on the way home so I decided to call and see if he left it on the sink while he was washing his hands . . . per usual, I was right!
The nice lady at Target retrieved the ring but asked me about the inscription inside (to prove it belonged to us). I guess it was a good decision to personalize his ring : ) It was pretty funny, and you know that I'll never let him live that one down (kinda like how he didn't get down on one knee to propose to me).
Sunday afternoon we took Callum to Dave & Buster's in Springfield to play some games. It was an absolute madhouse (I'm not known for having original ideas), but we had a blast!

He LOVED the Jurassic Park game and probably would've been happy just playing it over and over. I have to say I'm a little shocked that he can aim and fire that gun with such accuracy. He could totally hang with the big kids. He also wanted to play the Kung Fu Panda game (the new movie is super cute), but Jesse had to help him hit the targets. Callum kept touching them with one finger . . . not sure he grasped the concept. He'll be more prepared next time we take him to play games.
Oh well, fun times and funny stories made for some pretty great memories. Celebrating all weekend long must have really taken a toll on this kid because he fell asleep on the way home . . . and mom had to improvise.

Luckily, we got some serious snow Sunday night and Monday so we've had a little more time to rest and play : )
I hope you and yours had a very Happy Valentine's Day as well!
See you back here real soon : )
